

Jana Nelhybel joined DC Youth Orchestra Program as Director of Development in September 2012. She has ten years of experience working in development and marketing leadership positions at arts nonprofit organizations. Before coming to DCYOP, Jana was the Marketing and Communications Director at Congressional Chorus & American Youth Chorus. Jana’s experience includes the prestigious Arts Management Fellowship at the Kennedy Center, where she worked with the National Symphony Orchestra, the Development Department’s Annual Giving Office, and Millennium Stage. Passionate about arts education, Jana has volunteered teaching the violin since 2000 at Sitar Arts Center, where she also plays in the pit band for the summer musicals and was part of a fundraising team for several years. Prior to working in arts management, Jana was an International Trade Specialist with the U.S. Department of Commerce, where she worked on the Afghanistan Investment and Reconstruction Task Force, served as the Acting Commercial Officer at the U.S. Embassies in Kiev, Ukraine and Prague, Czech Republic, and helped U.S. companies export while at the U.S. & Foreign Commercial Service’s Marketing Office. Jana has a BA from Bucknell University and an MA from American University.

Ms. Nash holds an M.S.A. degree in Educational Administration from Trinity University and a B.M. from The Catholic University of America. Ms. Nash has taught for over thirty years in the DC Public Schools and also served as President of the District of Columbia Music Educators' Association. She is an active bassist in the DC metropolitan area. Ms. Nash has performed as principal bassist of the Washington Performing Arts Society, Men and Women of the Gospel Orchestra, the Soulful Symphony Orchestra, the Washington Festival Orchestra, the New Vienna Ensemble of Washington, Summer Opera Theater, Catholic University, Heritage Signature Chorale Orchestra, and the Washington Sinfonia. Ms. Nash has performed as a member of the Annapolis, Roanoke, Fairfax, and Lynchburg Symphony Orchestras. Ms. Nash currently serves as the String Department Chair at the DC Youth Orchestra Program. Ms. Coleman is the program's Operations Manager and is responsible for supporting and coordinating the major ensembles with the program, including rehearsal and concert coordination. She is also responsible for multiple additional operational activities for the organization. She joined the program as a staff member in the fall of 2005. She holds a B.S. in business administration from Strayer University and completed additional undergraduate studies in music performance and administration at University of Miami FL. Ms. Coleman is an alumna of the DC Youth Orchestra Program and taught percussion with the program for three years. She has over ten years experience working with children in both music and aquatics, as well as multiple experiences working in management and administration.

Ms. Shakir became connected with the DC Youth Orchestra Program through the membership of her children from 1988 through 2001. Two of her children were able to participate in the Austria/Germany tour in 1999. Ms. Shakir is responsible for the day-to-day accounting function as the organization's bookkeeper and has worked with the organization since 1998.
