 Elementary Orchestra Violin, Viola, Cello, and String Bass students in level G and H participate in the Elementary String Orchestra. This ensemble performs in concerts regularly (3 times per session, 6 times during the season), on programs for all students in levels C, D, E, F, G, and H.
Elementary Wind Ensemble: Woodwinds, Brass, and Percussion students in level E, F, G and H participate in the Elementary Wind Ensemble. This ensemble performs in concerts regularly (3 times per session, 6 times during the season), on programs for all students in levels C, D, E, F, G, and H.
Preparatory Orchestra: Violin, Viola, Cello, and String Bass students in level E and F participate in the Preparatory String Orchestra. This ensemble performs in concerts regularly (3 times per session, 6 times during the season), on programs for all students in levels C, D, E, F, G, and H.
Beginning Level Ensembles: Students in levels A, B, C, or D participate in a wind ensemble or string orchestra that corresponds to their level and instrument. There are four corresponding ensembles:

C-Level and D-Level students perform 3 times per session, (6 times during the season) and A-Level and B-Level students perform once each session.

The
Two O'Clock Band: The DC Youth Orchestra Program currently offers a jazz band opportunity for students in levels E and above.
Participation in Two O'Clock Band is by invitation and students are encouraged to request participation.
This ensemble has a traditional big-band instrumentation and meets at 2:00
p.m.
Jazz Improv. Class: Students playing instruments at levels E and above who do not play instruments traditionally found in big-band instrumention, have the opportunity to participate in an improvisation class. This class teaches the fundamentals of improvization, and allow all instruments to participate. This class is also by invitation, and students are asked to request to participate.
Flute Choir: The DC Youth Orchestra Program maintains a flute choir. Participation in the group is by invitation. Students are encouraged to request participation. The flute choir performs at the National Zoo Auditorium chamber concert series.
