WASHINGTON, D.C., Oct. 16, 2025 — The DC Youth Orchestra Program (DCYOP) will mark its 65th anniversary with a gala celebration on Friday, Nov. 7, 2025, in the Schuyler Ballroom at the Hamilton Hotel in Washington, D.C. Themed “Symphonies of Generations,” the event will bring together supporters, alumni, musicians, and community leaders from across D.C., Maryland, and Virginia (DMV).
For more than six decades, DCYOP has empowered over 50,000 young musicians from all backgrounds to excel in music and life. The gala will feature Mercedes Ellington (Gala Chair), Guy Lambert of Fox5 DC (emcee), a performance by The String Queens, and students from the DC Youth Orchestra. Guests will also hear stories showcasing the transformative power of music education.
“As we mark 65 years, we celebrate not only the music but also the generations of impact our program has had,” said Loretta Thompson, DCYOP executive director. “We’ve helped students not only learn music, but also to build confidence, grow, and form lasting connections. This gala is both a celebration of the past and a call to sustain the future of this essential program.”
Proceeds will support DCYOP’s mission to make high-quality music education accessible to all young people, regardless of financial circumstance. Contributions help provide instruments, educators, materials, and performance opportunities that shape the next generation of leaders.
